Marah Wanda Rutland grew up in the midlands of South Carolina, working in the Red Star Grocery. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University, a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, and the Legion of Chiropractic Philosophers from the Palmer Institute for Professional Advancement. After practicing chiropractic for seventeen years in Lexington, South Carolina, Marah moved with her family to the end of a long dirt road near Stigler, Oklahoma. Here, surrounded by coyotes, eagles, cattle, and all the feral cats in the county, she turned her family's memories into her first book. During this time Marah also served the children and animals of Oklahoma in several non-profit agencies and maintained a rural chiropractic practice. When an opportunity arose to return to South Carolina, Marah and her husband, two children, and a menagerie of horses, dogs, and cats, pulled up stakes again. The family now lives in Winnsboro, South Carolina and she practices chiropractic back in her old home town of Lexington. Marah has written feature articles for newspapers in South Carolina, Washington, and Oklahoma, as well as feature stories for radio. She has served with the Distinguished Board of Regents for Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, the Haskell County (OK) Community Partnership Board, and the Haskell County Animal Rescue Foundation Board. Presently, Marah is contemplating a volume of stories gleaned from her experiences as a chiropractor. |
